The Aglianico has quickly become one of Justin Boeger’s favorite wines to make. It’s an ancient variety that Greek settlers brought to Southern Italy around 800 BC, no wonder it is so different than anything else we make. Paired best with beef/lamb gyros, Pecorino cheese, and Mongolian Beef.
Amber wine was born in the country of Georgia, where it was traditionally made in clay qvevri (pronounced “k-where-vree”). These were large clay vessels that were buried underground. The deep yellow or orange-like hue is contributed by the fermentation that occurs on the skins. This Amber wine was fermented on the skins for 24 days, at a low temperature (around 50 ⁰F).
A variety of clones grown on vineyards between 2,000 and 3,000 feet are used to make up our Barbera, creating a perfect representation of El Dorado County Barbera. Cabernet Sauvignon was blended in this wine to enhance its tannin structure and increase longevity.
It's our most popular white wine, but WITH BUBBLES! This 187ml cutie is the perfect serving size when you don't want to open a full bottle, and also makes a great gift. The label is a Lexi Boeger original watercolor drawing of Queen Anne's Lace, which dots our vineyard rows and acts as a cover crop.
Cabernet Franc, a Noble French grape variety known for its outstanding characters in wine, is also the parent variety to both Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Our Cabernet Franc vines are Estate-bound and fully matured at over 30-years-old. We love this wine for its rich flavors, delicate spice, and overall balance of fruit and savory characters. Pairs well with herb-crusted rack of lamb, barbequed ribs and veggies, lentils, or tomato-based dishes.
Made primarily with grapes grown at over 2,000’ in elevation in the El Dorado Foothills, this elegant Cabernet combines soft, alluring fruit aromas with savory varietal characters. Soft on the palate, but with nicely structured tannins, this wine pairs effortlessly with a wide variety of dishes.
Cabernet Sauvignon is an effortless variety to make at Boeger. Our high elevation vineyards provide long growing seasons that give way to balanced chemistry at harvest and fresh aromatics in our wines. This wine would pair nicely with a dipped Italian beef sandwich, Mimolette cheese, and mushroom and Swiss cheese burgers.
The Charbono is a rare French variety. This vintage specifically displays a low alcohol that allows the flavors of the fruit and terroir to shine while upholding a boldness and expressive personality. Would pair best with brisket, bacon cheeseburgers, Manchego, and wild mushroom pizza.
Invitingly aromatic, this Chardonnay fills the glass with inviting, warm aromas. The majority of fruit for this wine came from vineyards at 2,200’ above sea level, helping the wine retain enough acidity to bring freshness to the finish. A full malolactic fermentation was performed to promote softness on the palate, while weekly lees stirring throughout the aging process contributed roundness and body.
This vintage of The Hangtown Gold is a call-back to the lively Gold Rush history of Placerville. The town once formerly known as “Hangtown”, as it was the county seat where justice was carried out. Made from a blend of our French Colombard and Pinot Gris grapes, this white is a definite crowd-pleaser for warm weather sipping!
Meritage is a special designation for Bordeaux-style blends made in the US. This particular blend stands out because it includes only three of the top five grape varieties used in Bordeaux blends. The term “Meritage” is derived from “Merit,” which reflects the quality of grapes, and “Heritage,” symbolizing the centuries-old tradition of wine blending. It pairs nicely with roasted meats, bold cheeses, beef stews, and chocolate desserts.
Miglióre, Italian for “Better, or Improve” is our Reserve Blend of rare Italian grape varieties. The name being a representation of what a perfect blend should be; greater than the sum of its parts. Enjoy with Bolognese, Arrabbiata sauces, carbonara, smoked meats, gumbo, and grilled vegetables.
This vintage of Migliore is very different from our previous blends with the majority components being Negroamaro and Sagrantino. Enjoy with olive tapenades, Cubano sandwiches, mild cheeses, and artichoke-based sides.
Inspired by the wines of Rioja, Spain, Tempranillo and Graciano comprise the backbone of this blend. Tempranillo provides pretty aromas of plum and fig, while also contributing tannins that provide structure without coarseness. Graciano, a typical blending partner in Rioja, provides intense, dark color, vibrant acidity, and notes of dark, concentrated fruits. The Tempranillo component was aged in once-used American oak barrels to round out the aromas and impart complexity to the palate.
Milagro is one of our cherished M-series blends. Representing wines from Spain, making this blend becomes a mission to capture the flair for food and culture of that region. Winemaking in Spain is described in terms of “elaborar”, meaning to elaborate what the grapes are trying to express without manipulating the wine to be anything otherwise. Our goal is to elaborate the distinct qualities of our high-elevation terroir, and flavors that are true to the fruit.
Petite Sirah, also known as Durif, has been implemented as a blending component for decades. Rightfully so, for this wine has intense color, bold tannins, and beautiful flavors. A little Petite Sirah in known to go a long way for aiding a lighter red! It wasn’t until 1977 that Boeger produced a single-variety Petite Sirah, where its full personality could shine. Ever since then, this wine has been a fan favorite, consistently providing us with bold fruit, tannin, and spice. Perfect for rich and aromatic foods, such as barbequed pork/ beef, mushrooms, dark chocolate, and stinky cheeses (blue, aged goat, Gouda, and Asiago).
Pinot Gris is one of the 3 Pinot mutants, the others being Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc. All three varieties are genetically the same, except for a mutation that changed the color of the grape skins. Pinot Noir, being the darkest of them all, Pinot Gris, a grey-skinned variety, and the Pinot Blanc is a typical looking white wine grape variety. Pair this wine with Mango Stilton cheese, fresh bruschetta, pesto pasta dishes, and macadamia nuts.
Pinot Noir is a rare sight in the Foothills. These grapes come from our Pinot Grande vineyard, named after the neighboring "Pine-O-Grande" Wood Mill. The high elevation of this vineyard helps maintain a cool growing season for this delicate variety. It pairs well with Portabella mushroom burgers, duck, pizza, risotto, butternut squash, and salmon.
Pinot Noir has been a cult classic California wine shortly after the release of the movie “Sideways”. Even though the movie has shaped pop culture, this wine speaks for itself. A high elevation Pinot Noir is certainly a rare treat, because it is a very picky and delicate grape to grow in general. It pairs well with Portabella mushroom burgers, duck, pizza, risotto, butternut squash, and salmon.
Primitivo is often associated with Zinfandel, primarily because they are both clones of a Croatian grape called Crljenak. This means that they are very closely related genetically, but the wines offer different characteristics due to random genetic mutations that can occur from stress, pest pressures, and many other factors.
Our Sauvignon Blanc is our most popular white wine! Its refreshing character and slightly sweet finish makes this wine an easy sipper to enjoy with good friends and good times. Pairs well with Thai food, seared scallops, creamy pastas, and fresh greens.
Tannat is a fun new variety in our lineup! It was an opportunistic purchase made by Justin Boeger based on a recommendation from our friends at Viani Vineyards in Pilot Hill. Tannat originally hails from the Basque Country, situated within the borders of France and Spain. It was introduced to Uruguay in 1870 by Basque immigrants and is now the national red grape of Uruguay. This grape variety is renowned for its high tannins, deep rich color, and abundance of antioxidants.
The Walker Zinfandel is a vineyard-designated wine that showcases fruit from the Walker Vineyard. This wine typically includes some amount of Petite Sirah, as these two varietals complement each other exceptionally well! Zinfandel offers a delightful ripe and jammy fruit flavor with hints of black pepper. Meanwhile, Petite Sirah contributes purple tones to the color and introduces elegant tannins that enhance the wine's body and texture. These two fruit-forward wines combine their individual characteristics to create a harmonious blend.
This vintage pairs beautifully with dishes such as braised short ribs, grilled figs with goat cheese and balsamic, and pork chop with a peach or apple glaze.
White Riesling is a synonym for Johannesburg Riesling, and the names are interchangeable. We choose to use the name “White Riesling” whenever we make the Riesling in a dry style, since most people equate Johannesburg Riesling with sweet or dessert style white wines.
Riesling, a German variety, does exceedingly well here in El Dorado AVA. With our diurnal temperature shifts (hotter days and cooler nights, thanks to our elevation), this variety is able to retain its sharp acidity while developing beautiful tropical notes like pineapple! Would pair beautifully with sushi, and white seafood dishes, along with other Indian and Asian dishes. Typically served best very chilled, at fridge temp 43⁰F.
