Pinot Gris is one of the 3 Pinot mutants, the others being Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc. All three varieties are genetically the same, except for a mutation that changed the color of the grape skins. Pinot Noir, being the darkest of them all, Pinot Gris, a grey-skinned variety, and the Pinot Blanc is a typical looking white wine grape variety.
